Our 4-Year-Old program is designed for children who turn 4 between January 1- December 31. We focus on the tools and skills necessary to prepare children for Kindergarten. This includes developing a greater sense of independence and self-sufficiency, encouraging basic decision-making without adult intervention, self-regulation, problem- solving, improving listening skills, proficiency in letters and single-digit numbers and an introduction to writing. Through continued use of the “Learning Without Tears”’ program, formal handwriting technique is taught and phonemic awareness activities are incorporated into daily lessons. A Literacy Coach joins the class once a week to support the faculty and children. Included in their daily activities are snack, music, gym, art and playground time. One playground time each week is spent with our naturalist, engaging in her “Into the Woods” program.
Our 4-year-olds meet five mornings a week, 9:00 am to 12:00 noon. You may choose to extend your child’s day with an optional 1-hour lunch, available daily from noon -1:00 pm. We also offer optional enrichment programs 4 days/week following lunch Monday through Thursday from 1:00 – 1:50 pm (please see Additional Programs for more details). We offer two 5 day/week classes. In the 4-Year-Old program, the average class size is 14-16 children with one head teacher and one assistant teacher in each classroom.
